A Social Action Orientation

The Church is committed to improving life for those who struggle with lack of financial, social, health, spiritual, and other opportunities.  Non-profit connections include  the Evening Sandwich Program (ESP), the Interfaith Council, the Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter, and the Family Violence Project (FVP). The church received the Northern New England Anne Kempers Award for Social Justice in 2012.

Ongoing Projects include:

Evening Sandwich Program

Under the direction of Maili Bailey, the Evening Sandwich Program (ESP) is a soup and sandwich program where a free hot, homemade entree, several different types of sandwiches and desserts are served on a take-out basis .

The Second Sunday Souper Wagon

This “souper” little red wagon appears at the beginning of the service to collect ready-to-eat donations of peanut butter, jelly, canned soups, and other supplies for the Evening Sandwich Program.

First Sunday Donations

On the first Sunday of each month, we give our non-pledge, in-church offering to a local, non-profit organization.

A UU team has led volunteers in preparing dinner for the guests at the shelter on a monthly basis.

Annual Donations Drive

Once a year, church members collect items for various groups in need, such as, school supplies for local children, personal care products for the homeless shelter, and emergency bags for the Family Violence Project.
