Evening Sandwich Program

Our History

Under the direction of Maili Bailey, the Evening Sandwich Program (ESP) is a soup and sandwich program where a hot, homemade entree, several different types of sandwiches and desserts are served on a take-out basis.

Rounding out the cadre of volunteers from our own church are groups of local individuals with a desire to  give back to the community.  The vast majority of volunteers come from

area churches, primarily St. Mark’s Episcopal, Pleasant Street United Methodist and the UCC (United Church of Christ).  Students from local colleges, notably Colby and Thomas, have been longtime volunteers and benefactors along with student athletes and Honor Society members from Winslow High School.

The Evening Sandwich Program has been fortunate to receive ongoing monetary contributions from individuals and organizations in the greater Waterville area.  This money has been used to purchase foodstuffs and other needed supplies not included in TEFAP [Emergency Food Assistance Program] or other federal food programs under the umbrella of the FDA.

ESP has also benefitted from the generosity of WalMart, Hannaford and Shaw's whose donations of bread, pastries, meats and fresh produce have been the “meat and potatoes” of the program. A partnership with the Good Shepherd Food Bank rounds out sources of food used to make the soups and sandwiches that are the backbone of the program.

Open Sunday through Friday

4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
