Over a decade ago, members of the Archives Committee began to organize and archive the records of both the Universalist Church of Waterville
(1821-1951) and the Unitarian Church of Waterville (1862-1951), which merged to become the Universalist Unitarian Church of Waterville. Efforts are ongoing to finish this work, complete with a comprehensive database of all documents. As stewards of the second oldest building in Waterville, we believe it is important to trace and document our rich history. Members also enjoy seeing how different things were way back when.
The records of the merged Universalist Unitarian Church are also partially archived including material prior to 1989. We hope to post some of this archive on the Maine Memory Network, an online museum, and to make it available to researchers interested in our church's history. We also want to help those seeking genealogical information about past church members.
The Archives Work Group meets every Tuesday from 9 to 11 a.m. We are always happy to have extra hands to help file and organize.
